Man Charged in Bus Stop Crash That Injured 5

James D. Pugh faces numerous charges, including DUI and criminal damage to property

A man from Chicago's south side faces numerous charges in connection with a Tuesday night police chase that ended when his vehicle collided with another vehicle and crashed into a bus stop in the city's Roseland neighborhood.

Four people standing at the Chicago Transit Authority bus stop on the 10300 block of South Michigan Avenue, as well as a person inside the vehicle that was hit, were injured.

James D. Pugh, 48, faces two felony counts of aggravated fleeing, and five misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of drugs, driving on a suspended license, possession of cannabis and criminal damage to property valued at less than $300, according to a statement from Chicago police. He was also cited for various traffic violations.

Pugh, of the 1400 block of West 115th Street, was identified as the driver of a vehicle that Calumet District officers tried to stop for a traffic violation about 8:40 p.m., police said.

The vehicle sped away and, while traveling north on South Michigan Avenue near East 103rd Street, collided with another vehicle and then crashed into a bus stop, police said.

Pugh attempted to run away after the crash, but was eventually apprehended, police said. He declined medical attention.

He was scheduled to appear in bond court Thursday.
