Volleyball Player Stabbed Repeatedly While Leaving North Avenue Beach

The man posted on Facebook to warn beach-goers that he was stabbed five times by a man in a seemingly random act of violence

A Chicago man is facing charges after allegedly stabbing a man multiple times as he left North Avenue Beach, according to police and the victim's Facebook page.

On July 17 at approximately 9:28 p.m., a 46-year-old man was in the 2000 block of N Lincoln Park when another man approached him and threw "a liquid substance" on him, according to the Chicago Police Department.

When the victim asked why the man did that, the offender stabbed him multiple times before fleeing, authorities said.

Responding officers found and arrested the man, who was then positively identified by the victim. Police said 27-year-old Michael Curry, of the 0-100 of S. Kedzie Ave in Chicago, is charged with one felony count of aggravated battery and use of a deadly weapon.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released, police said. In a Facebook status posted to Reddit over the weekend, the victim allegedly said he was stabbed five times and two days later, couldn't lift his left arm.

"I would like to let everyone know to be careful even in the seemingly very safe area around the beach," he wrote. "I hope to be back playing in a few weeks I know it is generally a very safe area but even so, anyone who walks away from there alone may want to rethink that, especially the women."
