Officer Injured By Food Tray, 8 Inmates Transported to Hospital From Cook County Jail: Officials

Eight inmates and one officer were taken to the hospital from Cook County Jail after fights broke out in the facility, Chicago fire and sheriff's office officials confirmed Tuesday night.

Multiple injuries were reported, including stab wounds, at the jail and ambulances had been dispatched to the facility, Chicago fire officials said.

"None of the injuries appear to be serious. A correctional deputy was struck with a food tray, thrown during a fight," said Sophia Ansari, a spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office, in an email. "The deputy is being evaluated, but was not seriously injured."

Two people were taken to St. Anthony Hospital, officials said, adding that their conditions were "non-life-threatening."

Mt. Sinai and Stroger hospitals were also receiving people transported from the jail, officials said.
