Sunday's snowfall caused hundreds of flight cancellations at both Chicago airports as a wintry system dumped several inches of snow across the area.

As of 9 p.m., the FAA reported 270 flight cancellations at O'Hare International Airport and 60 cancellations at Midway International Airport.

The FAA also imposed intermitted ground stops throughout the day at O'Hare. Midway experienced ground stops between 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.

O'Hare was experiencing 90 minute delays on both inbound and outbound flight, according to the FAA. Midway reported delays of about 15 minutes.

Snowflakes began falling in downtown Chicago about noon as the temperature hovered around 18 degrees. Up to two inches of snow could accumulate by the time the snowfall stops about 2 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Overnight, the temperature will rise to about 26 degrees by 2 a.m., and Monday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 35 degrees, according to the weather service. On Tuesday, there will be a 40 percent of chance of snow and a high of 36.

A Winter Weather Advisory took effect at 6 a.m. Sunday morning for Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, LaSalle, Kendall, Grundy, Livingston, Iroquois, and Ford counties. The Advisory will be in effect through midnight Sunday night.

Snow accumulation will be about 3 to 5 inches total in those areas. Closer to Chicago, snow totals could be as high as 2 to 4 inches.
