Thanks to some big hits from Kyle Schwarber and a great pitching performance from Jake Arrieta, the Chicago Cubs beat the Cleveland Indians 5-1 on Wednesday night and tied the World Series at a game apiece.

Trevor Bauer has struggled this season in the first inning of games, and those struggles continued against the Cubs on Wednesday night. Kris Bryant stroked a single into center field for the first base hit of the night, and he would score as Anthony Rizzo ripped a double down the right field line to put the Cubs in front 1-0.

The Cubs couldn't add any more runs in the inning, however. Ben Zobrist flew out to left field, and Kyle Schwarber struck out to strand Rizzo on second to end the inning.

Jake Arrieta took his turn on the mound in the bottom of the frame, and he got two quick outs to start the frame. He then walked Francisco Lindor and Mike Napoli to give the Indians a scoring chance, but he got Jose Ramirez to fly out to end the frame.

After an uneventful second inning, the Cubs added to their lead in the third inning. It all started with two outs as Rizzo and Zobrist both reached base, and Schwarber delievered with an RBI single to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.

That remained the score until the fifth inning, and it was again the Cubs doing the scoring. Rizzo coaxed a walk after a long at-bat, but he didn't have much time to savor getting on base as Zobrist roped a triple into the right field corner to drive him in and make it a 3-0 game.

Schwarber came up to bat next, and he played the hero role again. With two strikes on him, the slugger ripped a single back up the middle and scored Zobrist from third to extend the Cubs' lead to four runs.

Patience at the plate ended up paying off for the Cubs later in the inning, as Jorge Soler drew a walk to bring Addison Russell up to the plate with two outs. He too drew a walk, and the Cubs found themselves with a staggering five run lead.

Arrieta had a no-hitter going until the sixth inning, but he coughed it up with a double to Jason Kipnis. The Indians' second-baseman later scored on a wild pitch by Arrieta, bringing the Indians back to within a 5-1 margin.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the seventh inning, but neither could scratch a run across the plate. The Cubs loaded the bases with one out, but a fielder's choice by Bryant and a flyout by Rizzo ended the threat.

Meanwhile, the Indians got two runners on with two outs against Mike Montgomery, but the lefty struck out Carlos Santana to keep the Cubs in front.

Aroldis Chapman came on in the bottom of the eighth inning and recorded the final four outs to win the game for the Cubs and send the series back to Wrigley Field on Friday night.

Game 3 of the series will start at 7:08 p.m., and Kyle Hendricks will be on the mound for the Cubs.
