The Chicago Bears waived kicker Chris Blewitt Wednesday after he and the team's two other kickers each missed a 42-yard field goal attempt in practice the day before.
Blewitt, Elliott Fry and Eddy Pineiro all missed their attempts in front of the entire team and about 25 Bears alumni gathered at the team facility to watch the workout, ESPN reports.
The Bears signed Blewitt, the University of Pittsburgh's second highest all-time leading scorer, to a contract in March, just days before releasing Cody Parkey.
Parkey missed a potentially game-winning kick in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Philadelphia Eagles, bringing an end to the Bears' playoff run.
The kick attempts that Blewitt, Fry and Pineiro missed Tuesday were all one yard shorter than Parkey's now-infamous "double doink."
Wednesday's roster move leaves Fry and Pineiro as the only two kickers under contract with the Bears. The team signed Fry to a three-year deal in April and acquired Pineiro from the Raiders the following month in a trade for a 2021 seventh-round draft pick.
The Bears are expected to head to training camp in late July.
