Injured Deer Wanders Into Wisconsin Piggly Wiggly

Officials with the Department of Natural Resources came and removed the deer, which was still alive, but the injuries were too much and the animal was later put down

An injured deer made its way into a Wisconsin Piggly Wiggly Friday night, startling shoppers as it sat down in an aisle of the store.

The Oconomowoc Police Department said two deer were walking in the area around 7 p.m. when one saw its reflection in the window of a store in the strip mall and injured itself.

As the two walked away, the injured deer wandered into the Piggly Wiggly and sat down.

Witnesses told NBC affiliate TMJ4 the animal appeared to be in pain.

Judy Hirt, who took photos of the scene, called it the worst thing she has ever experienced, “seeing a beautiful animal of nature in such pain needing help.”

Officials with the Department of Natural Resources came and removed the deer, which was still alive, but the injuries were too much and the animal was later put down, authorities said.
