Kyle Hendricks Makes Cubs History for the Wrong Reasons Vs. Braves

Hendricks makes Cubs history in a rough way vs. Braves originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Suffice to say, Kyle Hendricks' return to the mound didn't go as plan.

The Cubs right-hander made his first start since April 7 on Sunday and came out flat against the Braves. Atlanta hit four first-inning home runs off Hendricks, taking an early 6-0 lead.

That first inning put Hendricks' name in the Cubs record books, but probably not in a way he'll want to look back on.

According to MLB.com's Sarah Langs, Hendricks became the first Cubs pitcher ever to allow four home runs in the first inning and ninth in MLB history. Former Cub Derek Holland did it most recently, last season with the Pirates.

That four-home run inning also was just the third ever off a Cubs pitcher in team history, according to Langs, and first in 13 years.

Hendricks finished the night with seven earned runs allowed in four innings. He missed his start on Tuesday while feeling under the weather.
